Windfarm in Westray

Geotechnical (Northern) Limited carried out an investigation to provide information on the ground conditions for the foundation design and construction of the works for the wind turbine at the site of Gallowhill in Westray, Orkney - On the instructions of the Engineer, Enercon and to their specification, acting on behalf of their Client, Westray Development Trust
At the location of the proposed turbine, two boreholes were sunk by rotary open hole and core drilling methods and five trial pits were excavated by mechanical means. Plate load tests were carried out once the foundations had been laid.
