James C Raeburn founded Raeburn Drilling in 1985 as a rotary drilling organisation. In 1993 Raeburn Drilling acquired the assets of a soils boring organisation with one soils rig and one geotechnical engineer. To reflect the wider capabilities Raeburn Drilling changed its name to Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd in August 1993.
In 2000 Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd acquired the assets of Millfield Geotechnical Services Ltd, Tarmac's Mineral Exploration Drilling organisation along with its' mineral exploration and hard rock drilling capability.
In 2001 Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd acquired the assets of
Terra Tek Ltd and DTS Technology Ltd. The laboratory at Uphall of
DTS Technology Ltd was transferred to the premises of Terra Tek Ltd at Airdrie and Birmingham who hold their own UKAS Scope of Accreditation.
DTS Raeburn,as they became called now focuses on providing specialist consulting and geo-environmental services.The companies are independent of Raeburn Drilling &
Geotechnical Ltd but Senior Personnel are involved in the day to day management of
In April, 2002, the assets of the water well construction and development operation, Mercia Drilling Limited, were acquired by Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical Ltd. Mercia Drilling are completely incorporated into Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd operating out of offices in Birmingham and are completely incorporated into Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical Limited.
In 2003 Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd acquired the laboratory of a major construction company and now have premises on the outskirts of London at Chesham
J C Raeburn left the Company in 2006 and Chief Executive Officer, Anne Baxter, now manages the Group.
Since its formation, Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical Ltd had established a premier position in ground investigation in Scotland. This has been achieved through substantial investment in plant, equipment, premises, and the recruitment of staff at all levels with wide and varied experience in the industry. With the acquisition of Millfields Geotechnical Services Ltd (Midlands), DTS Technology (Birmingham), Mercia Drilling (Nuneaton) and more recently a major construction Company's laboratories (Chesham) we now have a strong presence nationwide.
In November 2007 a new Company was formed in Aberdeen named Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical (Northern) Ltd. This has been a significant investment in the area and enhances the Group UK wide coverage
