Insitu Testing

Raeburn Drilling and Geotechnical (Northern) Ltd can offer a wide range of site testing, all executed by trained in-house personnel, including, but not limited to:

Small and Large Sand Replacement Density Tests

Sand replacement density testing can be undertaken using both the small (115mm) and large (215mm) equipment in accordance with BS1377:Part 9:1990.

Used alongside moisture content / dry density relationship testing which can be undertaken in our laboratories this test can be used to certify the quality of compaction of imported materials.

Plate Load Tests

Plate load tests can be undertaken using either a suitable piece of plant supplied by the Client, for example a tracked excavator, or our custom built certified load frame capable of taking loads of up to 10 tons.  Plate sizes of 300m, 450mm, 600mm and 750mm mean a large variety of test conditions can be created.

Gas, Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring and Sampling

  • Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical (Northern) Ltd site technicians are equipped with a wide range of site monitoring equipment including gas flux boxes, infra-red gas analysers for the measurement of landfill gases, and photo or flame ionisation detectors for the analysis of hydrocarbons and chlorinated solvents.
  • Gas samples for laboratory analysis of most determinants can be collected in Gresham Tubes or Absorption Tubes.
  • Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical (Northern) Ltd staff have access to a full suite of bailers, submersible pumps, Waterra power packs and flow through cells suitable for purging and sampling large or small volumes of water from wells.
  • Raeburn Drilling & Geotechnical (Northern) Ltd can supply a wide range of on-site analytical testing for water including but not limited to pH, conductivity, redox potential, temperature dissolved oxygen 'total dissolved solids' and in-situ analysis can be carried out either 'down hole' or in flow through cell.
